Solar Roadways: Paving the way for alternative energy

What if every single road or highway in America could produce energy for the country? This scenario isn’t fully make-believe. The company Solar Roadways from Idaho believes that this is a viable option in our hopes for sustainable energy production.

Our current roadways are made from petroleum-based products. Solar Roadways are not. The system is complex, but it sparked enough interest in the Department of Transportation that they agreed to pay $100,000 for a 12 by 12 prototype.

The coolest part about the roadways is that the top layer will have LED lights that can alert traffic of warnings ahead. It would be able to detect animals on the roads with specified heat sensors, and it would power electric cars with battery stations along the way.

It’s fun to imagine the full potential! Read the full article here.
