The E-Cycles program works with about 240 collectors and 12 recyclers across the state. It uses no taxpayer money—instead relying on annual fees from electronics manufacturers who sell their products in Oregon.
The year 2010 was the first year of the statewide ban on dumping electronics in the trash.
“There’s no need to go out and mine a mountain top or into the ground when we can mine this pile of urban waste,” said Program Manager Kathy Kiwala. “It saves a lot of energy.”
