E-Waste Legislation Connecticut

Connecticut has become the 24th state which has implemented electronics collection and recycling legislation (Chapter 446n of the Connecticut General Statutes, “Covered Electronic Devices”). Similarly to other national laws, Connecticut has passed an extended producer responsibility (EPR) law which places the cost of transportation and recycling of electronics on the manufacturers. Last year, a New York City law was proposed, which would require manufacturers to pay for at-home pickup of discarded electronics. The proposed law was contested as the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) filed a suit against the city of New York. Considering that New York state passed an e-waste bill law (A11308/S7988) earlier in June, the judge has officially dismissed the lawsuit.
