We’ve all been told to give up bottled water, but no one wants to do it. It’s convenient! It tastes better! Isn’t bottled water better than tap?

Although it may be convenient, you should give it up anyway. Here are four reasons why:

  1. Bottled water can harm your health. If plastic water bottles are left in the sun, heated up, or reused several times, they can leech toxic chemicals into the water. Think about it—how many times have you left your water bottle in the car or the hot garage?
  2. Bottled water is expensive. Did you know that tap water costs $0.002 per gallon while bottled water can cost anywhere between $0.89 and $8.26 a gallon.
  3. Bottled water is no safer than tap water. The EPA sets much more stringent quality standards for tap water than the FDA does for the bottled stuff.
  4. Bottled water harms the environment. According to TreeHugger, almost 90 percent of plastic water bottles are not recycled and end up in landfills.
